American sci-fi blockbusters have always captured the hearts of movie fans around the world. Every new release brings excitement, especially when it comes to the Marvel universe. The *Avengers* series has left a huge impact, sparking a deep passion for superheroes among fans. Over the years, we've seen incredible 3D prints of Iron Man, nuclear reactors, and other iconic movie props. But this time, two 3D enthusiasts—Joe Grundfast and Mattia Mercante—have taken things to an entirely new level.
Instead of going for the usual Iron Man or reactor models, they chose something familiar yet unique: the War Machine. While not as famous as Tony Stark’s original suit, the War Machine is a standout character in its own right, known for its bold design and innovative features. This project was a creative challenge that pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved with 3D printing.
Mattia Mercante, who owns a Form 1+ 3D printer, used it to create a highly detailed War Machine model. He started with black resin and then carefully applied water-based paint using a dry brush technique to bring out the textures and colors. The final model stands at 45 cm tall and consists of 46 individual parts, all meticulously assembled. Even the small details, like the 30 bullets attached to the model, were printed and placed by hand, making the finished product truly impressive.
To complete the scene, he used an FDM 3D printer to create the rock base beneath the War Machine. The head of the model was printed with a layer thickness of 0.5 mm, while the rest of the parts were printed at 0.1 mm for maximum detail. The entire project took 98 hours to print the main structure and an additional 67.5 hours for the base, totaling over 165 hours of work. The result is a stunning tribute to one of Marvel’s most iconic characters.
