American sci-fi blockbusters have always captured the hearts of fans around the world, and each new release tends to generate massive excitement. The *Avengers* series, in particular, has left a huge impact on pop culture, making superheroes like Iron Man instantly recognizable. While we’ve seen countless 3D printed models of Iron Man and other iconic tech from the movies, one unique project took things to another level.
Joe Grundfast and 3D printing enthusiast Mattia Mercante recently embarked on an ambitious project: creating a detailed 3D-printed model of the *War Machine*, a beloved character from the Marvel universe. Though not as famous as Iron Man, War Machine has its own distinct appeal and has made a name for itself in the superhero world.
Mercante used a Form 1+ 3D printer, known for its high-resolution prints, to bring this model to life. He chose black resin material and applied water-based paint along with a dry brush technique to achieve a realistic finish. The final model stood at 45 cm tall and was composed of 46 individual parts that were carefully assembled. In addition, he even printed and attached over three dozen small bullets to add more detail and authenticity.
The base of the model was printed using an FDM fused deposition printer, while the rest of the War Machine was created using the Form 1+. The head of the model was printed with a 0.5 mm layer thickness, while the rest of the parts used a finer 0.1 mm layer for maximum detail. The entire project took 98 hours to print, plus an additional 67.5 hours for the base, totaling over 165 hours of work.
This impressive creation showcases not only the capabilities of modern 3D printing technology but also the dedication and skill of hobbyists who push the boundaries of what’s possible. Whether you're a Marvel fan or a 3D printing enthusiast, this War Machine model is a true masterpiece that highlights the intersection of creativity and innovation.
