Artificial turf football field maintenance and dirt disposal

I. How to Maintain an Artificial Turf Football Field

人造草坪足球场

Once the artificial turf football field is installed with black rubber infill, it can be used for training and matches. For the first four weeks, it's recommended to clean the surface once a week by removing debris and ensuring the grass blades remain upright. After one month, a more thorough maintenance should be carried out. This includes checking for any irregularities in the field surface and adding more black infill if necessary. The goal is to keep the surface smooth and the grass standing straight. Annually, a full inspection should be conducted to remove debris, replenish infill material, and re-straighten the grass. It’s also important to check the edges of the field for any curling or damage and address these issues promptly to ensure long-term performance.

Improper use can significantly increase maintenance challenges. Therefore, it's strictly prohibited to wear sports shoes with spikes longer than 9mm on the field, as they can damage the turf. Heavy objects should not be placed on the grass, and driving vehicles on the field is not allowed. Activities like javelin, discus, shot put, and other high-impact sports should not be performed on the grass to avoid damaging the fibers. Additionally, open flames, cigarette butts, and chewing gum must never be left on the field, as they can cause permanent damage to the synthetic surface.

How to Clean Dirt from an Artificial Turf Soccer Field

Cleaning dirt from an artificial turf soccer field is essential to maintain its appearance and functionality. There are several methods for removing different types of stains:

1. Leaves can be swept manually.

2. For dirty stains, mix 30–40g of neutral detergent in 1L of warm water and wipe the area with a cloth.

3. Soot can be cleaned with water.

4. Blood stains can be treated with a solution of 1L of water mixed with half a cup of salt, then rinsed with warm water.

5. Ink stains can be removed using 30–40g of neutral cleaner in 1L of warm water, applied with a cloth.

6. Oil or chewing gum stains can be addressed by applying perchloroethylene to the affected area and wiping it off. Chewing gum can also be frozen and scraped away.

7. Chocolate stains can be cleaned using the same method as ink—mix 30–40g of neutral detergent in 1L of warm water and wipe the area.

8. Metal oxide stains can be treated with 3% oxalic acid, followed by a rinse with water.

Before cleaning, it's important to remove the infill materials such as sand or black rubber from the area being cleaned, especially if the stain covers a large section. After cleaning, the infill should be replaced, and the grass should be restored to its original condition for optimal performance and safety. Regular cleaning and maintenance not only preserve the look of the field but also extend its lifespan and ensure a safe playing environment for athletes.
