The IPP Group, a global leader in decorative paper printing, has taken a major step forward by launching the world’s first high-volume digital press designed for printing woodgrain, stonework, and other creative decorative patterns on decorative paper. This advanced machine is now operating at the company's production facility in Arnsberg, Germany — home to the group’s headquarters.
The new digital press represents a significant milestone in the company's strategy, as it allows for greater flexibility and efficiency in printing. Frank Schumacher, a spokesperson for the Management Board, emphasized that after years of dedicated effort, the team has successfully mastered all aspects of digital printing. “We are very proud of what we have achieved,†he said, highlighting the importance of this technology in expanding the possibilities of decorative paper printing.
The InterPlatt Group (IP Group) sees this new press as a valuable addition to traditional gravure printing methods. It enables cost-effective printing of small batches of newly designed or special decorative papers, which was previously challenging for the industry. Holger Dzeia, director of marketing and sales at the IP Group, explained that customer demand for flexibility has been growing, especially for initial print runs or new designs. “With this technology, we can provide solutions that were once impossible,†he added, noting that customers can now access small quantities of upholstery paper at competitive prices.
The KBA RotaJet 168, developed by Koenig & Bauer AG, is a cutting-edge inkjet digital press capable of handling full production in a single pass. With a maximum print width of 1680mm and a speed of 150 meters per minute, it ensures high throughput while maintaining quality. The machine also features a data transfer rate of 2.2 megabytes per second, preventing any interruptions during the printing process. Its exclusive Interpret system allows for the use of water-based inks on traditional decorative paper, ensuring proper lightfastness and successful impregnation.
Robert Bierfreund, Director of Group Engineering, praised the innovation, stating that the press reinforces the IP Group’s position as a technological leader in the decorative paper printing industry. “After years of research and development, we now have a solution that meets the demands of high-performance mass production through digital printing,†he said. “Our team is truly excited about the future this technology brings.â€
