IP Group Launches KBA RotaJet 168 Digital Inkjet Printer

The IPP Group, a leading global company in decorative paper printing, has taken a major step forward by launching the world's first high-volume digital press capable of printing realistic woodgrain, stonework, and other creative decorative patterns directly onto decorative paper. This groundbreaking machine is now in operation at the company’s production facility in Arnsberg, Germany, which also serves as the group’s headquarters. Digital printing has become a central part of IPP’s long-term strategy. After years of dedicated research and development, the company has successfully mastered all aspects of digital printing technology. According to Frank Schumacher, a spokesperson for the management board, the INTL team is especially proud of their achievements, emphasizing their strong unity and commitment to innovation. “With this new press, we can offer real value to our market partners—not only in terms of increased throughput but also by expanding the possibilities of digital printing on decorative paper,” he added. The new printing press is seen as a key addition to IPP’s traditional gravure printing methods. It enables the company to produce small quantities of newly designed or special decorative papers in an economically viable way. This flexibility is particularly important for customers who require quick turnaround times for initial print runs or for testing new designs in the market. Holger Dzeia, director of marketing and sales at the IP Group in Germany, explained the rationale behind the investment: “Our customers are increasingly looking for greater flexibility, especially when it comes to small batches or new product launches. The market demands high adaptability, and once the demand increases, we can seamlessly transition to gravure printing. Now, we can also offer cost-effective solutions for small quantities of upholstery paper that are about to be phased out—something the industry couldn’t do before.” The KBA RotaJet 168, developed by Koenig & Bauer AG, one of Germany’s top press manufacturers based in Würzburg, is a cutting-edge inkjet digital press that streamlines the entire printing process. With a maximum print width of 1,680 mm and a speed of up to 150 meters per minute, it delivers impressive performance. Its data transfer rate of 2.2 MB/s ensures smooth and uninterrupted data flow. The exclusive Interpret system allows for the use of water-based inks on traditional decorative paper, achieving standard lightfastness and ensuring successful impregnation and further processing. Robert Bierfreund, Director of Group Engineering, praised the impact of the new press: “By introducing this digital press, the IPP Group has reinforced its position as a technological leader in the decorative paper printing industry. This machine represents a true global innovation. After years of preparation and passionate R&D efforts, we now have a technology that can support high-performance mass production through digital printing. Our team is truly proud of this achievement.”
