Hotel integration into fitness becomes a trend

The integration of fitness elements into hotel experiences has become a major trend in the hospitality industry. Since 2015, more and more hotels have started to focus on wellness, recognizing that maintaining a healthy lifestyle while traveling is increasingly important for guests. The idea is simple: people want to stay active and feel good even when they're away from home. Jason Moskal, vice president of EVEN Hotel, noticed during conversations with customers that traditional hotels often failed to meet the growing demand for health and wellness services. He pointed out that it's challenging for travelers to maintain their fitness routines or get proper rest while on the road. This insight led to the creation of EVEN, a new hotel brand by InterContinental Hotels Group, designed specifically for health-conscious travelers. The goal was to offer a space where guests could stay fit, relaxed, and productive at the same time. Moskal emphasized that this trend isn’t just a passing fad—it’s now a necessity for high-end hotels aiming to remain competitive. More people are embracing a lifestyle that values physical and mental well-being, and they expect their travel experiences to reflect that. EVEN isn’t the only brand entering this space. Other hotel chains, like Wyndham’s TRYP and Starwood’s Westin, have also been integrating fitness into their offerings for years. For example, TRYP has had fitness-themed rooms since 2010, equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, and sportswear. Westin launched the runWESTIN program in 2007, offering guided runs and partnering with New Balance for shoe rentals. They also provide special packages for marathon runners, including VIP access and pre-race meals. New players are also entering the market. Equinox, a high-end fitness brand, recently launched a fitness-focused hotel chain. These hotels offer personalized training, healthy meal plans, and organic juices. Each location includes an Equinox gym, and future expansions include cities like Los Angeles, London, and Miami. Meanwhile, Soul Cycle, another fitness brand under Equinox, opened a large studio at the South Beach Hotel in Miami, featuring bikes, changing rooms, and clothing shops. Beyond just gyms, these hotels are redefining what it means to be “healthy.” EVEN focuses on holistic wellness, with a chief health officer leading classes and runs. TRYP emphasizes fitness in every aspect of the guest experience, from the room design to the amenities. Westin offers running tracks, meditation sessions, and nutrition programs as part of its Health Tides initiative. The demand for such services is rising, especially among educated and high-income individuals. Surveys show that 80% of global consumers want to improve their physical and mental well-being. While business travelers are the main users of hotel fitness facilities, leisure travelers are starting to take more interest. Even though prices vary, hotels like EVEN and TRYP offer premium rates—$140–$180 per night for EVEN, and $440–$480 for TRYP’s fitness rooms. In conclusion, the fusion of fitness and hospitality is no longer a novelty but a strategic move for hotels looking to meet modern traveler needs. As health consciousness grows, so does the expectation that hotels will support it. Whether through yoga classes, running trails, or custom fitness programs, the future of hospitality is clearly moving toward wellness.
