Concrete structures on track and field facilities are typically small in size and spread out across the site. Before pouring, proper preparations must be made at the construction area, such as ensuring clear access roads, reliable power supply systems, fully functional electric gates, and complete vibration equipment. These steps are essential to ensure a smooth and efficient concrete pouring process.
When transporting concrete, it should be placed in tightly sealed vehicles, preferably using ready-mix trucks to maintain consistency and quality. When pouring into molds, start from the lowest point—such as the bottom of a 3000m obstacle pool—and pour in layers. The first layer should not exceed 40 cm in height. After pouring, the concrete needs to be compacted using internal vibrators. The distance between vibrators should not be more than 1.5 times their working radius. Be careful not to hit the side forms or let the rebar touch the formwork. The distance between the vibrator and the formwork should be kept between 50 and 100 mm. The vibrator should be inserted into the lower layer by 50–100 mm. It is important to lift the vibrator slowly to avoid creating voids in the concrete. Each section must be properly vibrated until the surface becomes smooth, no more sinking is observed, and bubbles stop appearing. It's also crucial to avoid keeping the vibrator in one spot for too long, as this can cause separation of mortar and aggregate inside the concrete.
Once poured, the concrete should be properly cured to prevent cracks caused by temperature changes, wind, and direct sunlight. This is especially important in the early stages when the concrete is still curing and gaining strength.
During the pouring process, a dedicated staff member should be present to monitor and record any unusual phenomena or issues that may arise. This helps ensure quality control and allows for quick responses to any problems that occur on-site.
