A project partially funded by the British government has recently successfully developed a plasticizer for biodegradable plastics, which can be used to improve the mechanical properties of PLA in PLAs for films and other flexible packaging.
The project is supported by the UK government's sustainable development technology initiative, which has improved the flexibility of conventional hard PLA, and its extension can be increased from 5% to 320%. Such plasticizers can be biodegraded and their amount in the product is 10% to 20% of the additive. This modifier is based on a block copolymer formed between PLA and polyethylene glycol. The modified PLA can disappear in the mix within 20 to 25 days. At present, this type of additive has achieved industrial-scale production. (early morning)
