IOPP and American Packaging Students (I)

[Abstract] This paper introduces the IOPP organization and its 2003 American IOPP packaging professional student branch meeting on the basis of elaborated the American packaging professional teaching system and graduate employment relationship.

Abstract: The author introduces Institute of Packaging Professionals (10PP) and 2003 IOPP amefican student chapter conference hosted by the school of packaging, michigan state university. The internship/Co-op education in the US packaging programs, which is truly conducive to employment upon graduation, is investigated in detail.

The predecessor of the National Packaging Professionals Association (IOPP) [1] was the Packaging and Handling Engineering Association (SPHE), which was founded in the late 1940s. At that time, regional clubs were established in various places, and the student club was established in the early 1950s. In November 1989, the two organizations SPHE and Packaging Professionals Association and Packaging International Research Institute merged into today's IOPP. Corresponding student clubs, regional clubs and technical committees are also incorporated into the new IOPP organization. Currently, IOPP has 39 regional chapters, 10 professional technical committees, 9 student chapters and 5,000 members. The IOPP Student Club relies on the packaging department of their respective university. In addition to the leadership team selected by the student branch, the manager also has a packaging professional teacher as the supervisor. The US IOPP is headquartered in the Naperville town near Chicago.
IOPP is a leading authoritative organization for packaging education services. It focuses on the interests of its members, packaging societies and society and is committed to packaging in North America. It also through the continuing education, absorbing other packaging professionals to grow and develop to become a leading global packaging organization.
Since 1972, IOPP has been implementing a certification system for packaging professionals. For the qualified packaging professionals who apply for the application, the Packaging Professional Qualified Personnel Certificate (CPP) is awarded. To date, a total of 1,500 packaging professionals have obtained CPP. The most recent IOPP salary survey shows that the packaging personnel who obtain CPP are 8%-52% more than those without CPP.
Packaging professional certification is limited to IOPP members, the basic condition is to have 6 years of experience in packaging disciplines or similar technical disciplines (6 years of actual work experience; or 4 years of packaging undergraduate + 2 years of work experience; or 4 years of packaging professional Undergraduate +1 Year Master +1 Year Work Experience). The completion of all 4 semester packaging technology foundations [2] series of courses can be counted as 1 year experience. If you have not passed the 6-year experience, if you pass other conditions, you can obtain the CPIT. In addition, the completion of any two of the following indicates that you have mastered a wide range of practical packaging techniques and awarded a certificate of competency:
a. Multi-choice tests (150 questions involving packaging machinery, materials and techniques, 80% correctly counted as pass, multiple choice questions based on literature [2]);
b. Writing test (10 questions in the form of essays, combined with their own work situation);
c. Personal details resume (went in the last 5 years of experience in packaging or related disciplines, scored according to participation in IOPP or related academic groups, presentations at seminars/workshops, published papers, participated in educational courses and industrial exhibitions, lectures, obtained Patents, etc.);
d. Papers and patents (1 paper has not been published in the past 2 years and 1 patent certificate has been obtained in the past 1 year. The paper and patent signature must be the applicant). Packaging professionals have obtained CPP, and companies recognize that they have good industrial professional skills and packaging professional excellence. Once the CPP is obtained, IOPP is announced on its newsletter and web site. And allow CPP and IOPP/CPP badges to be added to the names of business cards and letterhead.
2 2003 10PP Student Branch Annual Conference In April 2003, the author had the opportunity to participate in the annual IOPP American Packaging Professional Student Chapter Meeting (Jamboree). The meeting was attended Michigan State University (MSU) [3], the University of Wisconsin-Stout (UW-Stout) [4], Rochester Institute of Technology (BIT) [5] and Clemson University (Clemson) [6] He has attended more than 80 teacher-and-student representatives from the IOPP student branch of the United States. The conference takes place in each of the above universities on a yearly basis. This year's conference was organized by the School of Packaging at Michigan State University. The theme of the conference was "Packaging for Social Development." More than 10 packaging organization officials or packaging technicians from the United States National IOPP, the United States International Safety Transport Association (1STA), 3M, Coca-Cola and others attended the conference on packaging and society, life, packaging and entrepreneurship, packaging and marketing, food and pharmaceutical packaging. Special speeches and exchanges were made on honeycomb paperboard packaging, transportation packaging and testing, etc.; IOPP students' chapters participating in the conference made a summary report on their work in the past year and their vision for the coming year; Bruce Hatter, Dean of School of Packaging at Michigan State University The professor introduced the development history of the school's packaging college; the participants visited the most prestigious University of Michigan packaging school laboratory and the development and scientific and technological achievements of packaging higher education in more than 50 years. The IOPP Student Chapter next year will be held at the Rochester Institute of Technology. (To be continued)
