From June last year to June this year, the pilot units tested more than 1.35 million blood samples. Wang Yu, director of the medical and political affairs department of the Ministry of Health, revealed that the nucleic acid testing work has been included as a major public health project in the “12th Five-Year†development plan of the health industry. By the end of the “12th Five-Yearâ€, blood screening nucleic acid detection technology will basically cover the whole country.
Wang Yu said that most of the blood stations in China have always used two enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) methods to screen blood donors. The development of blood nucleic acid testing can greatly shorten the "window period" for the detection of menstrual blood-borne diseases and reduce the potential risk of menstrual blood-borne diseases.
It is understood that since June last year, China has launched a pilot blood cell nucleic acid test in 14 units in 11 provinces. The central government invested 157.6 million yuan in one-time investment in the purchase of nucleic acid detection equipment and supporting equipment, personnel training, information system construction, and national reference laboratory construction in 30 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities). This year, the scope of the nucleic acid testing pilot will be extended to all provincial blood centers.
Wang Yu said that how to obtain the funding for maintaining nucleic acid testing under the existing mechanism has become one of the outstanding issues to ensure the continuous development of nucleic acid testing. The informationization of the nucleic acid testing system and the existing blood station laboratory testing system also needs to be improved. The meeting asked the provincial health administrative departments to strive for local financial support to solve the implementation of supporting funds and other issues. Blood stations that carry out nucleic acid testing should establish standardized laboratory testing procedures that meet standards, do a good job of quality control and technical training of nucleic acid testing laboratories, and explore the establishment of a nucleic acid testing model and management system suitable for China's national conditions.
