IBM Infoprint 6700 series printers come out

China Packing Network Compilation: September 14, 2005 BOULDER - IBM today announced that its latest RFID printer now complies with the second generation of global electronic product code (EPC) issued by industry standard organization EPCglobal (Class 1 Gen 2) Standards.

The IBM Infoprint 6700 R40 now meets the Class1 Gen 2 standard along with RFID tags and other devices. There are many electronic product coding standards in the world today, and the Class1 Gen 2 standard is designed to eventually become the only standard in the world.

The Infoprint 6700 R40, introduced in June, can print traditional computer bar codes and RFID tags. This scalable solution can be used in the existing basic supply chain and then upgraded to RFID technology level when needed.

This is a key component of IBM's end-to-end RFID solutions, including hardware, software, support, and services.

"The capabilities of our new RFID printer are supported by customers around the world," said Doug Oathout, vice president of the Printing Systems Division. "The Infoprint 6700 can now become part of the Gen 2 standard periphery that the world will converge on, providing great flexibility and value for customers in a variety of industries."

Improve RFID reliability and efficiency

To improve the reliability and efficiency of the supply chain, the Infoprint 6700 R40 can check each RFID tag before any important information is coded on the chip or printed on the tag. If the label is faulty, the printer can move on to the next label without operator intervention to eliminate unreliable labels. This increased reliability can help customers reduce revenue lost due to returns, distribution errors, and missed schedules.

The Infoprint 6700 R40 integrates quickly and easily with existing operating systems and ERP infrastructure. It integrates seamlessly with IBM WebSphere software, providing real-time visibility of the entire RFID supply chain from a single site. Comprehensive IBM solutions can share supply chain information between printers and networks to update inventory, transport and track details.

The Infoprint 6700 R40 is part of the thermal printer family, and this family also includes the Infoprint 6700 R60 and R80. The entire production line began operation on June 20, 2005. The R40`s Gen 2 production line is expected to be completed on November 18, 2005. For more information, contact your IBM representative or go online at ibm.com/printers/thermal
