There are three issues that ALICE should pay attention to when using backpacks

1: When hiking, it's important to hold the adjustment belt between your shoulder strap and backpack with both hands. Keep your body slightly forward so that your weight is centered in your waist and chin area, reducing pressure on your back. This position also allows for quick movement of your arms if needed during an emergency.

2: Always use rope protection when crossing steep streams or rugged terrain. If no protection is available, loosen the shoulder straps and open the chest and waist belts. This ensures you can quickly detach the backpack in case of danger, improving safety during unpredictable situations.

3: When camping, make sure your backpack is securely fastened to prevent animals like weasels or rats from stealing your food. At night, cover the backpack with a tarp or clothing to protect it from dew or snow. Even on sunny days, moisture can still damage your gear. In snowy conditions, you can use the backpack as a door for a snow cave. When moving through dense forests or shrubs, lowering your center of gravity by carrying a backpack helps improve balance and stability.

Additionally, an empty backpack can be placed under your sleeping bag at night to insulate it from cold ground surfaces, helping maintain a more comfortable sleeping temperature. These small but effective tips can greatly enhance your outdoor experience and safety while on the trail.
