The Basic Way of Color Management in Photoshop (3)

Refer to the following table:

Select three according to the current Photoshop 6 working color gamut settings, but keep the original CMYK values of the image, so no conversion, with the current working color gamut as the standard

Select the second according to the current Photoshop 6 working gamut settings, but keep the original LAB value of the image, and thus make the conversion

Select a completely preserved image original gamut, LAB and CMYK values unchanged

It is important to note that this is just an example. Different choices should be made in each case. If the opened image does not have an Embed ICC Profile, Photoshop will ask more questions. To know that there are opportunities to change colors, you should be clear about the effects of different choices. If you have any questions, you should consult a color management consultant.

In the Conversion Option, Engine chooses different CMMs. Basically, Adobe (ACE) is good, and the second choice of Heidelberg CMM is also very good. The effect of the two is not significant, leaving the user to choose. Intent should choose Perceptual, and Use Black Point Compensation should not choose. (See Figure 8)

When we set all the options in Color Settings, we can store the entire set of settings. This will allow you to choose from Settings, making it easier for you to do better than Photoshop5. (See Figure 9)

In addition to these settings users need to understand, Photoshop6 is the biggest difference from Photoshop5..X, Photoshop5.X all the image colors according to the settings in the Color Setting, so the RGB Working Space of all RGB images are the same, and so The CMYK Working Space is the same for all CMYK images. However, Photoshop 6 has made great progress. The Working Space of each image can tolerate differences. The setting in Color Settings is only a basic baseline, and each image can also have a separate Working Space.

So now in Photoshop 6, even if there are multiple images with the same color pattern, such as multiple CMYK images, each can have its own CMYK Working Space, and we can also view the ICC profile of the Working Space for each image. (See Figure 10)

Another difference with Photoshop5..X is that we are free to assign different ICC profiles in the Image Mode menu. When saving images, we can choose whether to embed the Working Space ICC Profile of the figure into the file. In the View menu, the new Proof Setup allows the user to preview the effects of the current Working Space color on other different processes/printers. Simulate Paper White also allows users to preview White Point (mostly white paper) in the ICC profile set in the Working Space and add it to the end result, making the preview more accurate.

Four. Summary

To know that in an idealized ICC workflow, when we know the source of the image ICC Profile, and the destination ICC Profile, we can accurately reproduce the color. But in addition, it is more important for users to understand color management. The above is only the most basic set of color management in Photoshop6. To use it well and thoroughly understand it is very important, otherwise different processes may make users caught off guard. The Graphic Arts Test Center or your color management consultant will provide relevant training to help you master the tricks of color management!
