Bayer develops new polycarbonate film for medical use

Bayer MaterialScience AG recently developed polycarbonate film Makrofol LP209. The product has the advantages of resistance to γ-rays and electron beam radiation, and has broad application prospects in the medical field.

Applications of Makrofol LP 209 in the medical field include titration of petri dishes, surface layers of instrument boxes, and transfer of product packaging. Potential applications include blood heat exchanger housings. The new film is manufactured using Bayer MaterialScience's Makrolon brand polycarbonate extrusion process, which meets the plastic biocompatibility ISO 10993-1 standard and allows human body fluids and organs to be in contact for up to 30 days.
