The village of Manzhao, a mixed-lown town in Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, still maintains the "Dai skin and hand-made papermaking techniques" that have been in existence for hundreds of years. The papermaking raw materials are taken from locally grown tree-building bark. From the raw materials to the final finished products, they are subjected to processes such as soaking, cooking, beating, slushing into curtains, and drying paper. At present, 119 of the 182 households in Manzhao Village have established hand-made papermaking workshops. The paper produced by the company is thin, soft, and flexible. It has become a good paper for the local Qiang people to produce “Kongming Lamps” and wrap Puer tea. Papermaking households in Manzhao Village can increase their income by an average of 5,000 yuan per year on this traditional hand-made papermaking industry.
