Wang Demao: Deep-seated causes of delays in printer technology

Vice President of Printing Materials Association: Exploring the Causes of Hysteresis of Printing Technology

——Interview with Wang Demao, Executive Vice Chairman of China Printing and Equipment Equipment Industry Association

The CEOs of the companies in the printing industry often said that the domestically-made printing presses were “unavailable” and lacked high-performance large and medium-sized machines, so they had to spend twice as much money on expensive Heidelberg,
Manroland... To improve the technical level of printing equipment is related to the long-term development prospects of China's printing industry. Today, the weak technical foundation of China's printing equipment is an important issue facing Chinese enterprises. How can we make our printing industry change this situation? On this issue, Wang Demao, executive vice chairman of the China Printing and Equipment Equipment Industry Association, was interviewed by a reporter from China Press and Newspaper. The issues discussed by Wang Demao are worthy of deeper understanding in the industry.

Local companies develop technology with deep layers

"To raise the technological level of our printing companies, one of the important issues is how to make the level of introduction deeper, rather than just introducing a complete machine. We must also bring in the main technologies that we use to support the entire machine, so as to develop the technological basis of the economy. It was solid," said deputy director Wang Demao. He told the "China Press and Publication" reporter that exhibitors from China PRINT have always participated in the exhibition. The exhibitors are mainly domestic companies, followed by some well-known large foreign manufacturers, while foreign small and medium-sized printing companies exhibit more less. From here you can see some problems. He said: “Our local printing companies only deal with foreign companies and cannot fundamentally solve technical problems because the technologies of these large factories may not all be developed by themselves, and some may be from other companies.”

Wang Demao introduced that after conducting inspections on the foreign printing industry and doing a lot of communication and exchange with foreign industry figures, he discovered that some small and medium-sized enterprises do not use technology independently, but use complete sets of large-scale machinery and equipment. Some foreign manufacturers specialize in the production of paper machines, reels, dryers and other equipment. The products of the large-scale printing equipment manufacturers we see in China are often the result of the combination of various small-scale equipment. However, after China's Indian companies directly introduced foreign advanced large-scale machinery and equipment, after having gone through the middle business links, they could not understand the technical core of the relevant parts.

To make our company “turn from ocean to land”, we must deeply understand foreign industries until foreign technology.

Foreign Cooperation, Emphasis on Foreign Aboriginal Enterprises

From this point of view, the technology of some SMEs abroad is also required by our country's enterprises. Such as China's auto production, auto factories do not have much of their own things, many parts of the car from other countries, China's manufacturers are mainly processing and assembly.

Many large printing machinery equipment manufacturers abroad, like our automotive assembly plant, have their own unique technologies, but many of these specialized technical cores originate from component suppliers. In the post-technology era where equipment technology is extremely complex and in-depth, With this special high-tech co-ordination, the technical capabilities of the equipment can be strengthened. In contrast, China's equipment business model is still in the era of the workshop.

Therefore, in terms of technology, our manufacturing plants cannot focus on large manufacturers, but should reflect on their own problems, find weak areas, and directly engage with domestic and foreign manufacturers engaged in research and development in this area so that we can improve our technology in a targeted manner. Level.

Wang Demao said wittyly: "I feel that some small and medium-sized enterprises in foreign countries are also very 'earth', and it is not clear what the outside world is and the news is blocked." For foreign SMEs, the key to not coming to China is not how many machines and equipment to sell, and It is necessary to demonstrate its own technology to allow Chinese enterprises to understand and communicate with them; or to directly produce in China, and the cost of production in China is also low, and it can also be developed beyond China. This is a promising development path.

However, if these small and medium-sized enterprises abroad can not open their eyes, only supporting their own manufacturers, the result can only be big manufacturers to make more profits, they themselves missed the opportunity; if foreign small and medium-sized technology-based manufacturers directly cooperate with Chinese companies, will Benefit more.

Foreign industry people also agree with this view, but it is more difficult to implement it and it needs a long-term process. Then, for the big manufacturers in China, we should attach importance to cooperation with these foreign technology-based companies, which will help improve the company's own technical level, solve technical problems, and thus promote the improvement of the overall level of the enterprise.

From land to ocean, the key lies in the concept of human

When the reporter asked, “Can China's printing industry associations and other organizations provide such a contact platform for the development of Chinese machinery and equipment manufacturers and introduce foreign indigenous SMEs with unique expertise to domestic enterprises?” Wang Demao said: “Can we fight for For foreign small and medium-sized technology companies, the key to the problem is to change concepts!"

China's printing equipment companies often have "prejudice" in cooperating with foreign manufacturers, and there is a tendency to ignore SMEs. After switching ideas, domestic companies naturally can spontaneously discover such technology companies. But if they do not change their minds, they will turn a blind eye even if they push these technology-based companies to the company.

Wang Demao said that this does not deny the progress of cooperation with foreign large manufacturers. However, it should also be noted that from the perspective of the long-term development of China's printing economy, rather than buying advanced equipment from large manufacturers, it is better to first improve its technical level and produce these advanced equipment locally.

In foreign countries, many manufacturers specialize in paper feeding, paper delivery, CPT (computer-to-plate) technology, drying technology, etc., and they have studied very deeply. Their professional division of labor is very detailed and highly specialized. From this point of view, many problems in the printing machinery industry in China still need to be thoroughly investigated. Wang Demao said: "If a factory wants to be a 'talent', it is almost impossible." From this perspective, he proposed that Chinese companies can prescribe the right medicine according to their own defects. For example, when it comes to paper-feedback, it is specifically looking for a foreign paper-feeding mill. If it is weak in the collection of paper, it will look for foreign paper-receiving machine companies. In the long run, our printing companies have gradually attached importance to cooperation with foreign small and medium-sized technology-based companies and further attracted foreign technology. Come to China to participate in the exhibition, come to China to operate, form a virtuous circle, and promote the progress of the entire industry.

“I am also trying to find agents familiar with the situation in the United States and Europe, and invite some small and medium-sized manufacturers to establish relationships with us, so that our technological development can be furthered.” As an important leader of the China Printing Industry Association, Wang Demao’s awareness of corporate To these deep-seated problems, but only to pay more attention to the overall surface development expressed fear. He said: "This is still a question of understanding. If companies realize this problem, they should adjust their direction and solve technical problems at a deeper level and fundamentally, rather than solving problems on the surface and superficially."

For the cooperation with foreign small and medium-sized printing companies to improve the prospects of China’s enterprise technology level, Vice President Wang Demao believes that as long as the concept is changed and these foreign small and medium-sized technology-based enterprises are attracted and valued, after experiencing an understanding and development process, both parties are aware of it. To co-operate with each other's needs, the time to solve the problem will naturally mature.
