Nadia Bakhurji: Innovating Architecture and Interior Design

Nadia Bakhurji, an award-winning architect, founded NBA in 2007. With over two decades of experience in the Middle East, she transformed NBA into one of the leading design studios across the GCC. Known for crafting beautiful, practical, and high-quality handmade architecture and interiors, NBA employs modern design methodologies and best practices. Their collaborative approach centers around a client-first model, ensuring delivery excellence. One of their notable projects is the Al Hamra Private Villa, located in a serene area of Jeddah. The villa showcases two distinct design approaches. The first approach abstractly interprets traditional Andalusian architecture into a contemporary setting, emphasizing transparency and fluidity while incorporating traditional elements. The second approach stays true to heritage Andalusian architecture, focusing on spatial hierarchy, axiality, and ornate wall treatments. Another impressive project is the Classical Islamic Private Palace in Riyadh's Al Falah district. This luxurious mansion features double-height spaces, guest lounges, and spacious suites surrounded by lush landscaping. Every furniture piece and fabric was meticulously selected, with some custom-designed to serve as rich focal points in each space. The Classical Andalusian Private Palace draws inspiration from Spain's Islamic heritage, blending historical aesthetics with contemporary touches. Water features and outdoor spaces play a significant role, creating a journey through mesmerizing patterns and geometry. For the Saudi-Japanese Business Forum Stand, NBA drew inspiration from both countries' cultures, symbolizing the relationship between Japan's rising sun and Saudi Arabia's palm tree. The design celebrates the fusion of these two nations' histories and traditions. The Almalga Retail & Offices Building serves as a new design hub fostering creativity and real estate investment. It integrates advanced digital technology with heritage-inspired architecture, offering spaces for design workshops and events. In downtown Riyadh, NBA designed the NCCI Tawuniya Board of Directors Floor, reflecting Tawuniya's vision and strategy. Geometry and patterns were used creatively in ceiling and floor designs, along with an outdoor roof garden inspired by the tower's architecture. This article highlights how NBA, under Nadia Bakhurji's leadership, continues to innovate and push boundaries in architecture and interior design across the region.
