How To Package Astro Turf With Wild Flowers – The Packaging Doctor

Packaging Tips for Fragile Astro Turf with Wildflowers – The Packaging Doctor

Injuries and damages—these are topics we frequently discuss in the clinic. But let’s face it, damage prevention is critical, especially since it ranks among the top three reasons for needing packaging in the first place.

On the market, there are countless specialized packaging options tailored for specific products. For instance, mug boxes for coffee mugs and anti-static bags for electronics are all designed to simplify logistics for businesses.

However, when dealing with oddly shaped or delicate items, finding appropriate packaging can be quite challenging, especially if there's no readily available “off-the-shelf” solution.

Today in the clinic, we’re meeting with a manufacturer of artificial grass who is experiencing significant product damage during shipping. Below is the packaging advice I provided to help them resolve this issue and keep their business growing.

Hi Doctor,

I run a business that produces artificial grass, and recently launched a new product line featuring grass with beautiful wildflowers included. My concern is that the couriers I use are damaging the flowers during transport. This is costing me valuable time and money, and I fear I may have to discontinue this new product line.

What can I do to prevent this kind of damage?

Thank you,
Janette

Hi Janette,

Thank you for reaching out to us in the clinic today. Our main goal is to ensure that the natural beauty of your wildflowers remains intact while protecting the integrity of your artificial grass during transit.

The best packaging solution for your situation would be large bubble wrap. This type of packaging is specifically designed for customers like you who need to ship fragile and easily breakable items. Its large bubbles offer excellent flexibility, allowing you to trim and customize it to fit any order size. Simply wrap the bubble wrap around the artificial grass and secure it with tape. The flowers will be cushioned without being flattened, ensuring they arrive safely.

For maximum protection, pair the bubble wrap with lay-flat polythene tubing. Available on a single large roll, this heavy-duty tubing is an easy way to create custom-sized bags. Made from 125-micron polythene, it is ideal for handling heavier items such as carpets and rugs, making it perfect for your artificial grass.

To use, select a suitable width—anywhere between 20 inches and 48 inches should work well. Slide the tubing over the artificial grass, cut it to the desired length, and seal both ends using a heavy-duty heat sealer.

Your package is now secure and ready to be shipped!

I hope this advice proves helpful.

Best regards,
The Packaging Doctor

P.S. Don’t forget to double-check your packaging before sending out orders. Small adjustments can make a big difference in preventing damage during transit. Additionally, consider adding padding inside the box if necessary, especially for larger or more delicate items. Remember, prevention is always better than repair!

Good luck with your business, and I hope these tips help you maintain customer satisfaction while reducing operational costs. If you ever encounter other tricky packaging scenarios, don’t hesitate to drop by the clinic again—we’re here to assist!
