Home appliance companies rush to release promotion plans for inverter refrigerator market or blowout

In recent years, several factors have contributed to the challenges faced by the home appliance industry. Overcapacity, industry transformation, and structural adjustments have all played a role in shaping the market landscape. Last year, the overall growth rate of the industry saw a downward adjustment. According to data from Zhongyikang, a leading home appliance market research institute, domestic white goods retail sales declined by 0.2% in 2023. Among these, refrigerator sales dropped significantly by 10.4%, marking the biggest decline since the launch of the "Appliances to the Countryside" policy in 2008. Moreover, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of refrigerators per 100 households in China reached 82, indicating that the market is nearing saturation. At the 2015 AWE (China International Consumer Electronics Show), major home appliance companies collectively introduced plans to promote inverter refrigerators. Looking at the broader white goods market, the penetration rate of inverter air conditioners reached 57.31%, while that of inverter washing machines was 26.78%. Both figures are significantly higher than that of inverter refrigerators, suggesting that the future of this segment looks promising. Air-cooled refrigerators equipped with inverter compressors can maintain low-speed, low-energy operation without stopping once the desired temperature is reached. This eliminates the noise caused by the frequent start-stop cycles of fixed-frequency compressors, as well as the energy waste associated with such operations. The result is a quieter and more energy-efficient experience. According to statistics, in the first half of 2014, retail sales of air-cooled two-door refrigerators increased by 80.4% year-on-year, while those of three-door models rose by 27.3%. Many top home appliance manufacturers have integrated air-cooled inverter technology into their refrigerator products. For example, Samsung, a leading Korean brand, launched an air-cooled, frost-free three-door refrigerator with a smart inverter compressor as early as 2013. As a market leader in large-capacity refrigerators, Samsung has combined inverter and air-cooling technologies to develop a "moisturizing double-cycle" system, which helps maintain high humidity inside the fridge, prevents air dryness, and avoids issues like freezing and chilling in different compartments. It's worth noting that Samsung has widely applied air-cooling technology to its large-capacity refrigerators, including both two-door and three-door models. The RB-F310G two-door refrigerator, featuring air-cooled inverter technology, was recently recognized as the best two-door refrigerator in Europe by the International Consumer Research and Testing Institute (ICRT) magazine. Industry experts believe that with the continuous development of inverter compressor technology, air-cooled refrigeration has become the preferred choice for most consumers worldwide. Samsung’s success in the refrigerator market is closely tied to its early adoption of air-cooled inverter technology, which explains its position as a market leader. Many home appliance companies expressed optimism about the rapid growth of the inverter refrigerator market in 2015. A representative from Hisense mentioned that after years of research, the company is now entering a new phase of inverter refrigerator development. Li Wei, president of Meiling Electric, noted that compared to air conditioners, the inverter ratio in refrigerators is still relatively low. However, once challenges such as cost and control are resolved, inverter refrigerators with more competitive pricing are expected to see strong demand in 2015. Some experts also pointed out that if new energy efficiency standards are introduced, refrigerators not using inverter technology may fail to meet the new Class I energy efficiency requirements. Although the refrigerator industry continues to seek breakthroughs in refrigeration and control technologies, it is clear that under the trend of smart connectivity, the wave of inverter refrigerators is gaining momentum. 【Print】 【Close】
