Hey everyone,
This Saturday, August 7th, CNN Films is premiering a half-hour documentary on their main channel. It'll air at 9 PM Eastern Time / 6 PM Pacific Time, with a repeat showing later that evening at 9 PM Pacific Time. If you're subscribed to CNN's paid streaming service, it'll be available for on-demand viewing starting the next day.
A few weeks back, myself—Jon Stokes—and a few others, including Tom Rader, Caleb Causey, and some of our family members, sat down for a series of interviews that apparently make up about half of the documentary. CNN's team caught up with us while we were filming the new Austere First Aid video course. They even got some behind-the-scenes footage of us on location, capturing the process of creating that series.

The original idea behind the documentary was to explore how more and more people from diverse backgrounds are getting involved in the self-reliance and modern preparedness movements. It was meant to highlight how the community has evolved beyond the outdated stereotypes and showcase practical, non-alarmist ways to become better prepared.
It's really exciting to see our community getting this level of mainstream attention. We trusted the filmmakers and felt it was important to participate, especially since the team behind this documentary also produced the *Pandemic: How to Prevent an Outbreak* series that premiered on Netflix in early 2020. Talk about perfect timing! That documentary, filmed in 2019, featured interviews with experts who warned about the potential for a novel coronavirus outbreak.
With the pandemic changing everything, CNN asked the same team to create a follow-up piece. This time, the focus shifted to how people are responding to the reality of such global crises.
To be honest, I'm a bit skeptical about how this might turn out. Mainstream media often falls short when covering topics related to preparedness, usually leaning toward sensationalism or fear-mongering. However, we've come to trust the filmmakers, and we thought it was worth giving them a chance. Hopefully, viewers will tune in expecting "doomsday bunker porn" but leave understanding the real story.

We’ll find out soon enough how it turns out. If you want to catch it for free and maybe laugh at us being awkward nerds, mark your calendars for Saturday night! Either way, I’ll keep you posted.
Take care,
Jon
