A Life Suffused With Colour

Ask any artist, and they'll tell you that a blank canvas feels like both a thrill and a challenge. For Vedavathi, it symbolized endless opportunities. Interestingly enough, her very first canvas was her biology notebook during college. As she studied illustrations of plants and animals, she realized her deep affection for art.

"I would spend hours sketching to create the best records in class. That curiosity pushed me into the world of art. I joined drawing and painting classes nearby. Through those lessons, I experimented with various mediums like watercolors, oil pastels, Tanjore paintings, and more."

Once she began, Vedavathi never stopped creating, even after marriage and children. In 2009, she earned a Diploma in Art, where she learned about different artistic techniques. After relocating to the USA in 2011, she enrolled in a Graphic Design program to dive into the digital realm. Over time, she mastered blending traditional art with digital creativity.

"Since moving to Michigan, nature has been my muse—flowers and landscapes inspire me most. Though winters here are stark, I cherish spring and fall for their vibrant colors. Even the snow has its own beauty! Yet, I always return to my roots for inspiration. My mixed media pieces and patterns burst with color."

We asked her about her early works and achievements. Vedavathi fondly recalled painting a reproduction of Raja Ravi Varma's 'Malabar Lady.'

"When I started, I doubted I could finish it, but my passion carried me through. I was thrilled to have tackled such a challenging subject. As for my first exhibition, it was at Chitra Santhe in Bangalore in 2010. Being part of it filled me with joy. Selling more than half of my pieces felt incredible!"

When asked what creating means to her, she said:

"It’s pure freedom and joy. It’s my time to be myself, letting my thoughts flow onto the canvas. Whether I’m happy or stressed, creating always helps. The best moments are quiet ones with coffee and music playing softly. I jot down all my ideas in a notebook, which I refer to when I begin a new piece."

Considering her long journey, we wondered if she had any tips for overcoming creative blocks. She shared that unwinding with family, traveling, or simply visiting a library often helped her break through barriers. When asked about her current projects and future goals, she mentioned:

"I teach acrylic painting to both kids and adults. I also design custom mixed media pieces for clients and hope to license my patterns for home decor, wallpapers, fabrics, fashion accessories, and greeting cards."

We asked her advice for those starting out creatively. She responded:

"I truly believe in Jack Canfield’s words: ‘Don’t worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss by not trying.’ So, take the leap! If you love something, commit to it daily, even in small ways. Do it out of passion, not expectation. The rest will follow naturally!"

We hear you, Vedavathi! May you continue thriving in your creative pursuits and inspiring others. Thank you for sharing your story with us!

In the past year, we’ve highlighted many inspiring creatives. Your journeys have inspired, amazed, and humbled us. To everyone who shared their tales with us, thank you—it’s been an honor!

Red /White Wine Glass

A red wine glass and a white wine glass are two different types of wine glasses used to enhance the drinking experience of each respective type of wine.

A red wine glass typically has a larger bowl and a wider opening compared to a white wine glass. The larger bowl allows for better aeration of the wine, allowing it to come into contact with more oxygen and release its aromas. The wider opening also allows for better access to the wine, making it easier to take in the full range of flavors.

On the other hand, a white wine glass has a smaller bowl and a narrower opening. The smaller bowl helps to preserve the cooler temperature of white wines, as they are typically served chilled. The narrower opening helps to concentrate the delicate aromas of white wines, allowing them to be fully appreciated.
